DescriptionThe Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey (SHCC), is hosting an Eighth Annual scholarship fundraising event to be held on June 16, 2011 at X, in Y. We are currently seeking support from the business, professional and political communities for our Scholarship Fundraising Event. The state of Hispanic education is perhaps the biggest challenge of all: only half of young Latinos now in the eighth grade will graduate from high school. Only 10 % of Hispanics adults currently have a college degree, as compared to 23 % of the general population. Over the next decade, Hispanics will continue to grow in number, influence and responsibility. It is vital to our country’s economic, political and cultural future that we make higher education accessible to a greater number of Hispanics Americans. By increasing the number and level of college degrees among Hispanics, we are not only providing a benefit to the Hispanic community, but also making a tremendous investment in the America of tomorrow. The business community is being contacted requesting sponsorships for the event. As business leaders, we understand the necessity of return on investment (ROI). Our ROI vision is comprised of two specific strategies both short and long term. Initially, your dollars will provide an immediate return from the publicity attained through media coverage, press releases, marketing and invitation acknowledgements of our (sponsors & SHCC) event. Secondly, and in our opinion more importantly, the long-term return will be realized from the development and education of scholarship recipients from the Hispanic community. In years to come, the recipients will remember the confidence placed in them in the form of academic assistance through scholarship dollars. Once the scholarship recipients graduate and enter the highly competitive employment market loyalties will be with those who helped when they embarked on their higher education journey. Down the road, sponsors may also offer recipients co-operative education programs or internships that will assist in grooming potential management. Our vision has many long-term goals. History of the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey-Scholarship Fund: Since 2003, the Chamber, through its successful fundraising programs has awarded over $420,000 in Scholarships, utilizing an independent selection committee comprised of New Jersey College Presidents or their designees. Each of the 47 four year scholarships awarded from 2003-2008 is valued at $8,000, disbursed in $1,000 cash increments over eight semesters. It is the objective of the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey to annually award scholarships to deserving students. The support is continuous over a 4-year period providing that scholarship recipients continue to meet the criteria that was established by our academia and advisory committees. The applicants were selected through a review process that was conducted by our selection committee. We have requested the assistance of the academic community to establish a committee to develop criteria for the nomination/+application, evaluation, and selection of scholarship recipients. To date, committee members include 31 Colleges or Universities. Additionally, we are contacting Business and Community leaders to support this admirable cause. We envision a gala affair with the number of scholarships and total scholarship amount to be determined by the funding obtained. We would greatly appreciate your involvement and participation.
